Position: Commercial Manager
Location: South East
Remuneration: 85,000 – 110,000 DOE plus excellent benefits including bonus, company car or allowance, pension, private medical, 25 days’ holiday
We are pleased to be working exclusively with an ambitious and fast expanding specialist Ground Engineering Contractor. They are seeking to attract a hands-on Commercial Manager to the senior management team.
Having secured outward investment and with a clear expansion strategy in place, this business is looking to rapidly scale their operation. Led by a newly appointed CEO with significant industry experience and a demonstrable track record in positively reorganising and transforming businesses, they are looking to double their current turnover in the next year. We feel this is an achievable growth target.
This opportunity brings a very clear career path to a Director position and we feel that this could be achieved within the next 12 – 18 months.
A business-critical hire, you will be responsible for designing and implementing commercial processes, controls and procedures across all pre and post contract activity. You will work very closely with the wider leadership team including the Finance Director and Operations Director.
You will also be responsible for building your team in line with this growth, ensuring that the right people are selected for the organisation. This is very much a doing role and you will have to demonstrate where you are adding value.
Responsibilities will include:-Being the number one Commercial representative in the company-Design and implement a best in class contract cost and value reporting system -Value completed work and arrange payments-Produce and provide accurate forecasts of project cost to completion and final value-Monitor cash flow and valuation plan, ensuring applications are made correctly-Risk and value management and cost control-Oversee the estimating and pricing department-Review all contractual terms and ensure these are viable prior to entering contract (typically NEC / JCT / ICC)-Input into procurement strategy where required-Recruit, lead, develop and motivate a team of Quantity Surveyors
-Client liaison and relationship management
To be considered for this role it is anticipated that you:-Be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in Commercial Management / Quantity Surveying-Ideally be Chartered with the RICS or ICES (not essential)-Hold strong and demonstrable experience in the Civil Engineering sector, ideally having worked for specialist Subcontract or Tier 2 Contractors who self-perform groundworks / ground engineering projects-Can demonstrate your ability to add value to a contract, not just reduce cost-Be contractually strong and have knowledge of the NEC and JCT forms in the main-Have a can-do attitude along with the resolve to work in fluid and fast-moving environments-Be conscientious
