General Foreman / Site Manager – Civil Engineering

Location: West / South West London

Salary and benefits: £40,000 – £45,000 per annum plus car allowance, 30 days paid holiday, extremely generous pension, private health cover and life assurance

We are currently seeking to attract a General Foreman or Site Manager to a unique and historic employer, with heritage going back over 100 years.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing the development and delivery of small works and maintenance projects such as revetment and shore steps maintenance and repair, vegetation control and embankment restoration.

This position would suit an individual who has a love for the outdoors, rivers and waterways. This is an extremely secure position with a guaranteed and secured planned maintenance budget for years to come.

Leading a small team, you will be responsible for:

  • Undertake asset survey and inspections and identifying appropriate repairs
  • Establish and set up of site and facilities
  • Interpret the work programme and adapt where appropriate in relation to tidal variations.
  • Monitor costs and work within budget limits, hire/off-hire plant to optimise/cost/risk
  • Order materials, control deliveries and collections and manage waste appropriately
  • Identify commercial opportunities and minimise financial risk.
  • Supervise and manage the team, including reporting of absences
  • Maintain reporting register including temporary works inspection, PUWER inspections, daily diary, as-built records and risk assessments
  • Establish and maintain safe systems of working and report accidents and near misses
  • Liaise with all necessary stakeholders and communicate positively and effectively with members of the public
  • Maintain extremely high standards of workmanship and site housekeeping

To be considered for this role you will need to be a close match to the following criteria:

  • Hold an HNC / HND (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering OR demonstrate equivalent learning through an apprenticeship or time served scheme
  • Be I.T literate, able to competently use a PC and / or Handheld Tablet
  • Hold a CITB SSSTS or SMSTS and the appropriate CSCS Card.
  • It would be advantageous to your application if you held CPCS as well
  • Experience in working in the Marine / River environment would be ideal, although an individual with a strong background in groundworks would also be considered
