Today the real estate investor manages more than 25 billion worth of assets within the European market with a focus on shopping center, and office buildings in major urban Centre’s in Europe. The group is focused on entire lifecycle of real estate. Specialized teams in Germany cover the entire value-chain from development, investment and management and are aiming to always to define new standards with regards to operating retail shopping centres in Europe. 

Due to a continued healthy expansion phase and the positive business development in the retail sector, Cobalt Germany GmbH, on behalf of our client is looking for an analytically minded Head of Control (m/f) to be based out of Düsseldorf. As the Head of Control candidates will be exposed to many different parts of the entire organization in Europe to support the Finance Director in Düsseldorf and ultimately built out a streamlined and efficient group-wide reporting structure in Germany.  

Area of Responsibility

  • Act as the main contact for financial controlling aspects in Germany, ensure the adequate process control over the reporting environment and manage the controlling department in Düsseldorf
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts and provide reports independently when needed to the Senior Management
  • Lead 5-year plan process: master timing, precise roles and responsibilities, and coordinate contributions
  • Be responsible for monitoring and tracking progress on points arising from auditors and internal audit observations
  • Work closely with the different managers on the financial controlling aspects with regards to different assets
  • Work closely with third party service providers (including local accountants, tax advisors and auditors) and joint venture partners & co-ordinate
  • Liaising with all stakeholders to the business and work closely with and report directly to the Group Finance and the Head of Finance in Düsseldorf
  • Ensure periodic review of process controls at a company level, monitor key company performance metrics and look for continuous improvement opportunities for faster and more accurate controlling

The required Profile

  • Above average successfully completed university degree  ideally with a further finance specific degree (i.e. Master in Finance, MBA etc.) from a top-ranked business school
  • Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience with real estate accounting, budgetary and group reporting projects for a bank, a private equity company, fund or real estate company (investor or developer in the departments of Finance or Treasury)
  • Excellent knowledge in the areas of real estate finance, accounting and the common transaction structures (portfolio and individual property level, asset and share deals, fund structures, etc.) and current real estate capital market skills are required
  • Energetic, resourceful with the ability to take the initiative and make informed decisions in conjunction with the senior management in Paris
  • Ability to present financial information and company performance to the board, investors and other stakeholders in a professional manner
  • International team player with demonstrable ability to work in a team
  • Strong leadership & people management skills
  • Fluent English language skills with the ability to present and communicate effectively
